BANNING CELL PHONES & OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES
BANNING cellphones and other electronic devices in Schools in CLAREMONT will not bring Stevens High School or any other school in town 'INTO THE 21st CENTURY as the touters of the present building plan are proposing will happen if and when the new high school plan is adopted or voted on. REACTIONARIES to the increasing demand for and the use of these devices and opponents of local, national, and global social networking, communication and information have, under the guise of educating youth, BANNED THESE INSTRUMENTS. WHAT THIS TELL US:-the old methods of instruction are still prevailing which will lead to more dropouts, truancies, and the like-THAT CLASSROOM TEACHERS will become CLASSROOM COPS instead of pedagogues and have tghe added duty of confiscating such devices if used without permission from the Principal who must, like Solomon, decide these issues and teachers will have to 'harvest' the phones prior to classes, have them safeguarded, and then redistribute them to their owners after classes. SUCH A POLICY, as this recently reported in one of the local newspapers, show that administrators and educators have litttle understanding of the changes going on in and at all institutional, economic, political and social levels in this coutnry, outside of the sound bytes they may receive via CNN etc.
