CHINESE & ORIENTAL RESTAURANTS IN CLAREMONT
I will discuss this topic in future postings but I think Claremont could use a THAI RESTAURANT. It now boasts a Japanese one in the old BISTRO NOVEAU/OLD PIZZA HUT building. The name sort of rhymes with SUDUKO or is it SUDOKU? I prefer GO & SHOGI to Suduku! So, what was the first CHINESE RESTAURANT IN CLAREMONT? It might not be what you think!
THE COMMON MAN RESTAURANT
On September 15, I dined at the Common Man Restaurant and had 'filet mignon' etc. I found out that plenty of diners show up or did that day. I was surprised that anyone in Claremont ate there and could afford the prices! Well, some other restaurants also charge comparable prices, no doubt, and I must say the food could be eaten at this place, which I can't always say about others. Anyway, the whole setup is most pleasing to the eyes and the river adds an atmosphere that most enjoy. People from other places, especially Massachusetts, like it but only a rare few really know what all this 'historic' stuff is all about! Claremont has allowed a great deal of its history to be demolished and destroyed but that is 'water over the dam' but let's keep the dams in place. They often used to produce electricity, you know. THE COMMON MAN family of places is growing and Claremont is lucky to have one here. I work in Plymouth,NH at present, and have heard of the Common Man there and also the ITALIAN FARMHOUSE,etc. but I have not eaten in any other Common Man except Claremont's so that will be the way I judge the others should I perchance dne in any of the others, especially if someone else pays for my dinner!
SOPHIE & ZEKE'S
I, for one, will not miss this restaurant which closed down although it does sort of limit the number of eateries available in Claremont, but as one falls another rises. It is an exciting time for eating,no doubt. Aside from over -extending,that is, moving from the locale from which they started, they really didn't know how to keep people going and satisfied. I am referring, of course, to the fact that our High School Class had been promised the restaurant would cater our reunion party, only to be told they would not do it or follow through the agreement because they thought they would clean up by attracting all the other classes and their delegates for dining! They don't realize how such a thing reverberates and how word of mouth can be most effective. Also, the place really has bad vibes from the previous eatery based there which has moved to a more successful area by far and doing well. This eatery catered for our class reunion and I highly recommend it,especially for breakfast, DUSTY'S!
